66 Utilizing Hokkaido Hardwood and Advancing Sustainable Craftsmanship Reducing Environmental Impact Through the Use of Local Timber Founded in Asahikawa―one of Japan's leading furniture production regions surrounded by abundant forests―CondeHouse has always regarded the wood of Hokkaido as the foundation of its craftsmanship. In alignment with the Kokono Ki no Kagu – Hokkaido Project launched in 2014 and promoted across the Asahikawa furniture industry, we are committed to prioritizing the use of locally sourced Hokkaido timber. Imported wood requires long-distance transportation, consuming large amounts of fossil fuels and generating significant environmental impact. By contrast, actively utilizing locally sourced Hokkaido wood enables a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions associated with transportation. We have steadily incorporated Hokkaido timber into both long-selling products and new collections, and as a result of these sustained efforts, approximately 80% of the wood we currently use is sourced from Hokkaido. This high local sourcing ratio forms a solid foundation for environmentally responsible manufacturing. Unlocking the Potential of Underutilized Tree Species To coexist sustainably with Hokkaido's rich forests over the long term, CondeHouse recognizes the importance of working with a diverse range of hardwood species.
